If you are choosing what paints to use for 3-5 year olds, you will need to consider more than just the price. Brush & Finger Paint has been formulated with young children in mind. The colours are bright, and intermixable, as well as being safe.

When children are young, paint doesn't always end up where it is meant to go. Paint will end up on clothes, despite aprons. It will end up on the floor, despite drop cloths, and when you're not looking, it will end up in young children's mouths. Obviously Brush & Finger Paint are not designed to be eaten - but kids will be kids, so keeping this in mind our Brush and Finger Paint range has been improved and specially formulated, just in case.

Derivan Brush & Finger paints are easy to clean up off children's clothes, while the paint is still wet it will easily come out of most fabrics (however, suitable clothing should be worn as some staining may occur).

In addition to 10 basic colours, there are also 5 glitter paints, ideal for creating gifts for special occasions.

New Derivan FabricArt Marker’s colours are transparent and matt when dry, they resist fading on most fabrics and are wash resist during normal wash cycles after they are heat fixed.

Application
For best results wash and iron beforehand to remove any sizing. Allow the fabric to dry. The markers will work on cotton, polyester and most fabrics. Please note that colours may not show up on dark coloured fabrics.

It is prudent to do a test piece prior to embarking on a large project.

Place the fabric to be decorated on top of a piece paper or cardboard to prevent the markers from bleeding through the cloth. If you are drawing on a T-shirt, place the paper inside the shirt, between the front and back sections. Lay the fabric out on any work surface so it is smooth. It is best to tape the edges to hold the fabric in place while you work.

Colour your material using a plenty of ink. Light marks are more likely to wash out. Saturating the fabric well will guarantee the colour will remain on the fabric. Put aside your creation to let it dry before you set the design with heat. Drying times may range from just a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on how thoroughly you have covered your fabric. Test the surface of the paint to ensure it is dry.

The Derivan FabricArt maker in white on dark fabrics:
When first applied the white looks very transparent when applied over dark coloured fabrics - leave it to dry for 10 or 15 minutes and it will produce a brilliant opaque white mark. On very porous or open weave fabrics you may need to repeat the application 2 or 3 times to achieve an opaque finish (leaving to dry between applications).

Dark Fabrics:
The FabricArt Marker in white makes a great base for all the other colours on dark fabrics. When using Derivan FabricArt Markers on dark coloured fabrics, do your design in the white marker first, as described above, and once dry, apply chosen colours over the top to achieve an opaque finish on dark fabrics.

Heat Fixing:
Set the markers by using either an iron or clothes dryer.

Iron: With an iron on cotton setting – press over the design slowly for about 2 to 3 minutes on the reverse side of the fabric. Move the hot iron over the surface evenly.

Dryer: If you prefer to use the dryer, tumble dry on high for about an hour and a half. Tumble dry only the items you have coloured with your fabric markers in the same load to avoid staining other clothing.Washing:
Allow 48 hrs. after fixing before washing. Gentle machine-washing in cold water is best. Do not use bleach. Hang to dry.

Flourescent Powder

Fluorescent powders are brightly coloured powders that Fluoresce under UV Light. Fluorescent powders can be added to most paint mediums and are easy to mix by hand in small amounts.

Gamblin Dry Pigments
Dry pigments are used to create a variety of painting media such as oils, acrylics, watercolors, egg tempera, and encaustic. Dry pigments are often used in mixed media and decorative painting techniques as well.
To create an artist’s oil color, pure dry pigments are thoroughly ground and mixed into refined or cold pressed linseed oil to form a stiff paste. Gamblin Artists Colors offers a range of dry pigments for painters who want to make their own oil colors.
Regardless of the binder used to mix dry pigments, artists should be very careful when handling powders. A respirator mask should be worn so that no pigment dust is inhaled.

Gold & Metallic Leafing

Metal leaf, also called composition leaf or schlagmetal, is a thin foil used for decoration. Metal leaf can come in many different shades. Some metal leaf may look like gold leaf but does not contain any real gold.

Kulay Dye Powder
dye is a colored substance that has an affinity to the substrate to which it is being applied. The dye is generally applied in an aqueous solution, and may require a mordant to improve the fastness of the dye on the fiber.

Both dyes and pigments are colored, because they absorb only some wavelengths of visible light. Dyes are usually soluble in water whereas pigments are insoluble. Some dyes can be rendered insoluble with the addition of salt to produce a lake pigment.
Metallic Pigment

metallic color is a color that appears to be that of a polished metal. The visual sensation usually associated with metals is its metallic shine. ... However, themetallic finish of such paints was added using fine aluminum powder and pigmentrather than actual gold.

Kulay Pigment Powder
pigment is a material that changes the color of reflected or transmitted light as the result of wavelength-selective absorption. This physical process differs from fluorescence, phosphorescence, and other forms of luminescence, in which a material emits light.
